Recently, a large number of landmines are buried in troubled countries, such as Afghanistan and Cambodia. Therefore, there is a great demand for removing them. Although some methods to remove these landmines are proposed, the final confirming operation is still done by human hands. The operators prick the ground with their probe, and find landmines by that feeling. Finally, landmines are exploded by using plastic bombs.
We developed remote-operated hand , called gMine Handh, to do this operation from away. Mine Hand can transmit 7 DoF movements of the wrist of the operator. In addition, it has weight compensation mechanisms to reduce tiredness of operators. Mine Hand does not need any electricity. Only mechanical links are used to make this movement possible. Therefore, it can be used at the place where it is hard to get electric power such as desert in Afghanistan.
