AC motors are widely used in industrial applications where high reliability and long lifetime are the most important factors. However, the cost for introducing AC motors and respective drivers are expensive, and the demand for low cost DC brush motors is still very large in many areas. Nonetheless, active joints are been extensively used in modern machine designs, and the cost of motors and drivers accounts for a great percentage of the total product cost, even when using DC brush motors. For this reason, the selection of low price motors and drivers is extremely important to contribute for decreasing the total prototyping cost of an intelligent machine. The TITech Driver research aims to develop such a low cost, but high performance and small-size motor drivers.
